Infecting Mayhem City 11 (Victory Force Zombies)

Just a quick update to keep on the 'one a week' pace.   After a couple of fun weeks with Grekwood miniatures, I am back to trudging through my 50 Victory Force zombies.  The good news is, I am almost done with them, and all remaining VF zombies have at least been started in one way or another.   Here are another 6.  I believe there are a couple, maybe even three scuplts in here that are duplicates.  That is okay, I don't think most would be noticed on the game table, except of course, for the peg legged zombie.   One of those would have been enough!

The pictures aren't the best, I rushed a little big to get this out.   The far right zombie for some reason has a filthy green hair.  His hair is long, so I picture him having been some sort of old rocker, still clinging to his grungy hit days, nearly 20 years ago.  He is a zombie now.  Next to him is an older zombie with a serious belly wound along with a torn knee.  A pale colour palette on him came out nice, I think.   Next up, the only female of the group was at some sort of formal gathering when the Zed Apocalypse caught her off guard.  The next fellow, like the female before him, is missing an arm.  (I'm pretty sure he is a duplicate.)  Then comes the pegleg zombie, who while being very original, is not a scuplt I really like.  Do people even get peg legs in current times?   Then the final zombie is a young lad, with his hair dyed green.  Much younger than the old rocker on the other end, I picture him as a late teen, filled with angst and loving his pop rock music.  I believe this is the third of this sculpt that I received in my 50 zombies bundle.

Not a bad set, as I said.  I really liked the female zombie, but the one with the gut wound is pretty good too. The sculpt I received triples of is pretty good, so I'm not too upset about having so many of him.
There is also a not so subtle hint in these pictures to what has been taking up more of my time lately, rather than painting zombies.

QUESTION TIME

Currently, the police force for my city stands at a SWAT team: and a Detective (going all the way back to my first two miniature posts in August 2011.)

I have a bit of a question about what else I should pick up.  My initial response is the Copplestone police (both pistol and shotgun packs).  They are nicely sculpted, and scale wise should fit in with my mostly heroic 28mm.  They also have the benefit of being armed with a visible melee weapon.  The disadvantage would be that I am not sold on their slightly outdated style of uniform.  Perhaps it is not outdated, as the weapons seem modern, but to me, it looks like a pulp era style of uniform.

Another similarly sculpted, but with perhaps more authentic looking uniforms are the Foundry version (this time I'm showing only the shotgun armed ones).  My dislike with this set is how non of them are actually aiming their guns.  This is a common feature with a lot of Foundry sets.

The final set that I am considering is from Tactical Miniatures and is labelled Big City PD.  At first, I disregarded the set due to lack of police hats.  But I've warmed up to it alot as despite the hat being part of most cities police force uniform, it is the most commonly removed part, and definitely would be the first thing to go in any high stress situation.  An additional bonus to picking up this set would be that I would get two pistol armed cops and two shotgun armed cops in the same set.  Saving me from having to buy both sets if I chose to go with Foundry or Copplestone.   A disadvantage would be that I think these guys are true 28mm and will look a little small compared to most of my other heroes.

For the longest time I had been mostly leaning towards Copplestone, despite my minor issues with the uniform.  But lately, I think Tactical Miniatures will be the set to go with.   Another factor would be how often do I need 4 or more cops armed with handguns or shotguns at a time?  I may be able to save by getting just the one Tactical Miniatures set.
Does anyone have any advice or opinions on which set to go with?  Thanks all.

  1. I have been eying off the Tactical Miniatures police myself, as I lack in this area for my games.

The copplestone ones look a bit futuristic for my thoughts on the zombie apocalypse.

    1. They (tactical) are my favorite of the poses, I am worried about scale however.

  2. I have the foundry ones and they work well even with the different sizes which all people are!

    1. The Foundry ones are okay, the size differences between them do not bother me. It is the lack of aggression in the poses that make me hesitate.

  3. Very nice Adam, The horde is growing nicely. I have both the Copplestone sets and though nice in themselves I don't think they would fit your theme they are a bit futuristic and all have comms gear. They might work as Corporate mercs or somthing though. I'd go with the tactical miniatures they look really nice. I quite like there Narcotics team as well. Might work as tooled up survivors painted in the right way

    1. In these unpainted versions I hadn't even noticed the comm pieces, and I don't like them. Combined with the sunglasses on all of them, it does make them look more of a Corporate Security team. I do really like the poses though.

I like the Tactical squad, but I am now worried about their scale, I'm thinking it is closer to 25mm. I'm looking for comparison pics online now.

  4. I like the Foundry set, they do look more modern than the Copplestone ones which look futuristically retro, if you know what I mean??? Although the tactical minis do look rather nice. Sod it buy the lot!!!!!!!

    1. I know exactly what you mean by futureiscally retro, it is the combo of long police coats with sunglasses/comm gear. It's a shame they didn't have better attire, as they are fantastic poses. I still consider them a viable option.

Maybe I should just grab them all, heh.

  5. Would your not so secret project that you've been working on be the building behind the VF zombies? It looks like a Sarissa model, but I couldn't say which one.

As for what cops to get, I'd say any but the Copplestone cops. They're too futuristic, although Brummie's idea of using them as Corporate Security is a good one. If I was forced to make a choice I'd go for the Foundry cops, seeing as you already have a Foundry SWAT team.

    1. It's true, Sarris buildings have been occupying much of my hobby time. The one in the back is just one of the 64 city blocks. I have the Cityblock bundle, so six buildings.

The Foundry sculpts are perfect for scale matching, I'm just not sold on their poses.

  6. Nice job on those Zombies. I really like the VF sculpts, most of them are decent and there are some real gems in the mix as well. I think I like the Tactical Miniatures Big City PD best. That's a nice weapons mix and great poses. Is the other project some Sarissa Precision buildings? It looks like you used one for the backdrop of the Zombie photo. Great job on the paintjob. It looks like cinder block, very industrial feel to it.

    1. Agreed on VF, some are real gems.
I also like the look of the TM Big City PD best, but I have concerns about the scale, the very few pictures I've seen on them with other miniatures have them looking far too small to blend in.

Yes, I also have the Sarissa buildings now. Thanks, for the compliment, I tried to paint this one as an old fashioned tavern

  7. Good looking zeds, even pegleg !
You might also consider Black Cat Bases' cop set - they fit in fairly well with Foundry, though they are perhaps a bit on the small side (but just a tad. I personally don't like the Copplestone cops, but what do I know ? The Tactical Miniatures cops look really good, but they'd be perfect if they had caps !

    1. At first I was really focused on the caps for the TM police, but its not such a big deal. I am more concerned with their scale.

The Black cat bases ones look cool too, and I'll probably get them as well if I go with Foundry. Thanks for the suggestion.

  8. Hmm what the deal about the caps? I prefer them without. I don't recall seeing many movies or tv series recently where you see police wearing them?

    1. Yeah, the mOre I think a out it the less importance the caps seem. I'm working on seeing them posed with other ranges.

  9. My friend my friend, go to my blog and look under law enforcement and then look under gang members, under law enforcement you will see the Tac mini cops, my recomendation for you of course, and under gang members you will see a a pic, BJ thugz and Tac mini cops use this as a comparison pic, scale will not be an issue :), good luck with whatever you choose, i'm sure you will do them justice.

PS. Great lookin zumbies BTW, very colourful.

    1. Your Tac mini cops in your blog were one of the few customer painted pics I could find of them online, and they look great. But I had only seen your picture of them alone (with cruisers). I'm going to check out the picture of them with Thugz now. Thanks alot!

  10. The kid with the green hair and the aging hipster are my favorites. Nice that you gave them both green hair. I did suss out that you were working on a building there in the background. That's the kind of thing that is beyond my skill level right now. One day though I'll get there and it will be fun.
